I was just taking an example about ripping, that is on this day still legal in France, for putting the songs of an album on my handy mp3/ogg player (and NOT share files illegaly). The main problem is that companies are trying to forbid this right with stupid protections that are not working at all.
The new law, entitled DADVSI, is forbidding to provide any solution for hijack copy protection. But it's a totally insane idea : If my home pc cannot rip this album, but the pc at work can do, should Michael Dell be jailed for 3 years because he sells cd-rom players that can circumvent "Copy Control" protection ?
The logo "Copy Control" (in fact, all recent albums published by EMI or Sony-BMG) is seen by lot of audiophilles as pure insults to the regular consumer. Some independent radios are even stopping to broadcast/promote CDs that have this kind of protection, as respect for their audience. Internet piracy is (in Europe) definitively not the reason of the music industry crisis as studies show. I explain that here dascritch.net/blog.php/20...

Pour avoir pourri les pc de millions de clients de Sony Music en installant un logiciel espion bourré de bugs sans les prévenir, le PDG de Sony BMG Music a été viré.
